Sandra (Sandy)
Cobb Bowen
Feb 11, 1952 — Jan 3, 2021
HENDERSON
Sandra (Sandy) Cobb Bowen passed away on January 3, 2021.
Born in 1952 in Henderson, Kentucky, Sandy attended Henderson County High School and graduated from Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri. Sandy began a lifelong career in human resource management at Gamco Products a Division of Masco Corporation in Henderson. She later joined Big Rivers Electric Corporation where she was part of the human resources management team for 17 years. In 1995, Sandy moved from Henderson to Louisville, Kentucky, where she was employed as a human resource executive for 17 years by Ann Taylor Corporation. In 2011, Sandy retired and returned to her hometown of Henderson.
Sandy served the Henderson Chamber of Commerce as vice chairwoman of Membership Affairs, and was a board member of the Society of Human Resources in Evansville, Indiana. While in Louisville, she was a member of the board of directors of the Louisville Theatrical Association (Broadway Series), a member of The Fillies, Inc., a group of Louisville women dedicated to supporting the Kentucky Derby Festival through numerous programs, and the International Foundation of Women's Forum, an unprecedented global network, building better leadership for a changing world.
Throughout her life, Sandy was a gracious and loyal champion of all whom she held dear. She treasured her family and her lifelong friends, including the many she cultivated during the time she lived in Henderson, Louisville, and beyond. She enjoyed the special pleasures of life, including close friends with whom she traveled, canning fresh vegetables and fruits with her special girls in the Keach Farms canning kitchen, escaping bitter Kentucky winters with her annual trip to Key West with her longtime companion, Tommy Joe Fridy, and mostly her beautiful children and grandchildren. In both her personal and professional lives, Sandy had an uncanny ability to approach any situation with logic, practicality, and heart. In doing so, she could be counted on to help others cut through the clutter of daily life or challenging situations to craft a solution that made perfect sense. She was a lovely, wonderful daughter, parent, grandparent, partner, and friend. Sandy will be deeply missed by all who love her.
Sandy was preceded in death by her father, Elvie Maurice Cobb, and mother, Gladys Stephenson Cobb, both in 2020.
She is survived by her companion, Tommy Joe Fridy; two sons, Chris (Amanda) Bowen and Rob (Shawna Egan) Bowen; six grandchildren Reece, Molly, Curtis, Carson, Connor Bowen, and Colton Egan; and her brother, Maurice (Cindy) Cobb.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. There will be no service or gathering, family or otherwise, at this time.
According to Sandy's wishes, memorial contributions may be made to Mayo Clinic Cancer Research, Department of Development, 200 First Street SW, Rochester, MN 55905, or at philanthropy.mayoclinic.org or to SouthernCare Hospice 12241 U S 41 Ste C Evansville, IN 47725.
