Roderick Mason Carter, 88, of Smith Mills, Kentucky, passed away at 1:30 a.m. Thursday, March 15, 2018, at the Linda E. White Hospice House in Evansville, Indiana, surrounded by his loving family.

Roderick was born January 20, 1930, in Beals, Kentucky, to the late Robert Lee and Lydia Frances Lacer Carter.  Prior to his retirement, he was a heavy equipment operator and a member of the Operating Engineers Local 181.  Roderick was also a member of Belleview United Methodist Church for 60 years.  He enjoyed time with his family, hunting, fishing, gardening, and being outdoors.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by eight brothers and one sister.

Survivors include his loving wife of 70 years, Sue Vada Buckman Carter; two sons, Bob Carter and his wife, Melissa, and Cary Carter and his wife, Sandra, both of Henderson, Kentucky; three grandchildren, Kristy Carter Epperson and her husband, Sean, Lydia Payton Carter, and Ben Boaz; one great-granddaughter, Grace Epperson; one brother; two sisters; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Rudy-Rowland Funeral Home.  Ray Buckman and the Reverend Steve Hale will officiate.  Burial will be in Fairmont Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and from 11 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home.
