Smith Mills

Obituary

William Richard "Richie" Shoulders, 65, of Smith Mills, KY peacefully departed on Monday, March 11, 2024, at home surrounded by his loving family.

Richie was a respected residential contractor, dedicating his life to his craft. He was a man of diverse passions, finding joy in stock car racing, organizing go-kart races for his children and friends at their home track, and the simple pleasure of companionship with his faithful dog, Layla. His commitment to community service shone brightly during his tenure as chairman of the Henderson County Republican Party for five years. Richie was also honored to be a Kentucky Colonel. Throughout his life, he reveled in the craftsmanship of the building industry, culminating in the serenity of his final years spent crafting woodwork in his home workshop.

A steadfast adherent to his traditional Catholic faith, Richie was an esteemed member of St. Paul's Chapel in Evansville, IN. His impact on those around him resonates deeply, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of all who were privileged to know him. Richie's spirit will forever endure in the memories he leaves behind and the countless lives he touched with his kindness and generosity.

He was preceded in death by his father, Rayburn Shoulders.

For 44 years, he shared an unwavering bond with his beloved wife, Julie (Yates) Shoulders. Richie's legacy is carried on by his devoted wife, Julie, and their cherished children: Adam (Katie) Shoulders of Henderson, Celia Shoulders of Evansville, Austin (Brittney) Shoulders of Loveland, Colorado, and Andrew Shoulders of Smith Mills. His memory lives vibrantly through his adored grandchildren: Levi, Anna, Jack, Haylie, Aiden, and Andrew. Richie's heart also embraced his mother, Dorothy Shoulders of Henderson, and siblings: Murray Shoulders of El Dorado, IL, Stacey (Chris) Becker of Cincinnati, and Paul (Denise) Shoulders of Henderson, along with a host of nieces and nephews.

A private traditional Roman Catholic Mass of the Latin Rite will be held.  Father Gavin Bitzer will officiate.
