Obituary

Nancy Ann Watkins Rice, 90, of Henderson, Kentucky, passed away peacefully Sunday, January 31, 2021, at Deaconess Hospital Henderson.

She was a lifelong member of Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church and was a graduate of Holy Name High School.

She touched many lives through her years of working and volunteering.  Her early working days were at Spencer Chemical where she met her husband Edwin.  She then spent many years as a nurturing homemaker.  Once their children were well on their way, she began working at the Quality Stamp store, volunteered at St. Vincent DePaul, and then finished her career staying very busy until the age of 84 at GRADD Career Services and the Henderson Community College.

She had many loves in her life!  She treasured her family and friends and was "Nana" to her grandchildren.  She was very passionate about her faith and her church.  She was also an avid fan of the Kentucky Wildcats!

She was preceded in death by her husband of 31 years, Edwin Bailey Rice; her parents, Thomas William Watkins and Anna Windhaus Watkins; and her brother, George Thomas Watkins.

Survivors include her three daughters, Phyll Ann Cummins (Bob), Laura Rideout (Andy), and Amy Mathis, all of Henderson, Kentucky; one son, Gary Rice (Amanda) of Henderson, Kentucky; one sister, Phyllis Smith (Ray) of Charlottesville, Virginia; five grandchildren, Macon Borne of Rock Island, Illinois, and Mabrey Rice, Davis Cummins, Jax Mathis, and Ben Mathis, all of Henderson, Kentucky; one great grandson, Warren Borne, of Rock Island, Illinois; nieces and nephews.

Services will be at noon Thursday at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church.  Father Larry McBride will officiate.  Burial will be in St. Louis Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday and until 11 a.m. Thursday at Rudy-Rowland Funeral Home where prayers will be said at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Pallbearers will be her grandchildren and sons-in-law.

Special thank you to her wonderful caregiver and friend, Dana Ford.  Also, many thanks for the dedication and compassion of the late Dr. Rick Ballou and Dr. Joshua Kitchens.  Dr. Kitchens and his team went above and beyond in recent years.
