Obituary

Mary Proctor "Proc" Dunaway, 97, of Henderson, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, February 13, 2022, at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh, Indiana.

Proc, a woman with a quiet but fierce Christian faith and unassuming nature, was born April 20, 1924, to James Corbett Stapp and Tommie Rhea Neel Stapp.   She was a member of First Baptist Church.  Throughout her life, she worked in banking and in doctor offices helping put her husband through pharmacy school and her children through college.  She also established and owned an antique shop which organically grew from her passion for collecting antiques.  She subsequently closed the shop for the sake of being a present guide for her children into adulthood.  To describe her without mentioning her love for dogs would be leaving out a large piece of the mosaic of her essence and rare was the moment in her life without the companionship of one or more.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elvin Essel Dunaway, Jr.

Survivors include one son, James E. "Jed" Dunaway and his wife, Debbie, of Henderson, Kentucky; one daughter, Margaret R. "Meg" Farmer of Newburgh, Indiana; five grandchildren, Dr. Erin Dunaway Hoskins and her husband, Jonathan Christopher Hoskins, Dr. David Dunaway and his wife, Dr. Sarah Nelson-Dunaway, Christopher Dunaway and his wife, Bridget Dunaway, the Reverend Heath Farmer and his wife, Dr. Rachel Evans Farmer, and Paul Farmer and his wife, Nikki Summers Farmer; and six great-grandchildren.

Private family services will be at Rudy-Rowland Funeral Home.  Her grandson, the Reverend Heath Farmer, will officiate.  Burial will be in Fernwood Cemetery.

Contributions may be made to New Hope Animal Rescue Center or First Baptist Church.
