Martha Anne
Bennett
May 6, 1943 — Mar 8, 2021
Henderson
On Monday, March 8, 2021, Martha Anne Bennett, of Henderson, Kentucky, loving mother and grandmother, died at age 77 at Deaconess Henderson Hospital.
Martha was born May 6, 1943, in Pontiac, Illinois, to Charles and Bess (Anderson) Bennett. She graduated from Henderson County High School in Henderson, Kentucky, in 1961 and attended the University of Kentucky. Martha worked in banking and finance in Vincennes, Terre Haute, and Evansville, Indiana. She had two children, Charles and Elizabeth.
Martha had a passion for gardening; her front and back porches always displayed well-tended, colorful flowers, and fresh herbs. She was an accomplished cook and at an early age won state honors in cherry pie, cornbread baking, and sewing. More recently, she helped St. Paul Episcopal Church members prepare thousands of cheese balls for holiday sales, as well as celebratory and bereavement dinners for community members. Her family treasures her needlepoint works, the wool sox, and scarves she knitted for them. Many in Henderson have received shawls knitted while chatting with friends as part of St. Paul's Prayer Shawl Ministry.
Martha was preceded in death by her mother, Bess; her son, Charles; her sister, Charlene; her brother, Tom, and her father, Charles.
She is survived by her daughter, Dr. Elizabeth Doriott and son-in-law, Dr. Derek Hindman, both of West Chester, Ohio; her grandsons, Nicholas and Steven; and great-grandson, Charlie; her sisters, Jane and Barbara; her brother, George; as well as cousins, nieces and nephews.
A Requiem Eucharist will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 5 South Green Street, Henderson, Kentucky 42420. Father Rich Martindale will officiate.
The service will be live streamed on St. Paul's Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/St.PaulsHenderson
