Obituary

Marcheta Raymond McDaniel of Lexington, Kentucky, formerly of Corydon, Kentucky, left this life Sunday afternoon, August 6, 2017.

Born March 17, 1925, in Corydon, Kentucky, to the late Basil and Dorcas Shoulders Raymond, she was a loving daughter, caring mother, and devoted wife to her husband of 64 years, Jack McDaniel, whom she met during World War II while working at Camp Breckenridge and who died in 2008.  She was his constant companion for 30 years after he suffered a stroke in 1978.  Her devotion to family and her kindness to friends made her special in this life.

She was Salutatorian of her graduating class at Corydon High School in 1942 and was very artistic, a beautiful seamstress, and a talented pianist.  She spent her life in the Corydon community, until moving to Tanbark Health Care, a personal care facility in Lexington, Kentucky, after the death of her husband.

Her faith guided her life, and she was a lifelong member of the Corydon United Methodist Church, where she served as pianist and board member.  She was a charter member of the Corydon Homemakers Club, Lions Club Wives, Thursday Afternoon Reading Club, a 4-H Leader, and a Kentucky Colonel.  She was an advocate for education and a charter member of the founding of Henderson Community College, where she took classes years after it opened.    She was very active in her community and was awarded Outstanding Citizen Award in 2009 during Corydon Happy Days.  Her kindness to others was her greatest attribute, always willing to offer food to someone passing through town, giving something to someone less fortunate, or making a garment for someone who needed clothes.

She was also preceded in death by her two brothers, James B. Raymond, Jr., and Samuel Oscar Raymond.

She is survived by two daughters, Marky Campbell (John) of McKinney, Texas, and Nancy Wilson (Graeme) of Lexington, Kentucky.  She leaves a beautiful legacy of five grandchildren, Rachel Campbell Owens (Chris) of The Woodlands, Texas, Elizabeth Campbell McCaskill (Vince Chavez) of Frisco, Texas, CMDR Matthew Campbell (Emily) of Rockville, Maryland, Chase Wilson of St. Ann, Missouri, and Drew Wilson (Edith) of Lexington, Kentucky; and 10 great-grandchildren, Corynne and Brennan McCaskill, Nathan Owens, Fletcher and Maggie Campbell, and Macy, Kate, Ileanna, Olena, and Urijah Wilson.  She also leaves behind nieces and nephews and life-long friends, especially Dr. O.P. "Nick" Nicholson, as well as friends at Tanbark Health Care.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 12, 2017, at Corydon United Methodist Church in Corydon, Kentucky.  The Reverend Mary M. Wrye will officiate. Burial will be in Corydon Cemetery.

Visitation will be 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, August 11, 2017, at Rudy-Rowland Funeral Home in Henderson, Kentucky.

Pallbearers will be David Smith, David Campbell, Matt Campbell, Chase Wilson, Drew Wilson, Dr. Chas Martin, Dr. Kurt Wilson, Ronald Raymond, Danny Perkins, and Gary Shoulders.
