Jeanne Ramsey Mortensen, 91, Henderson, died at 6:25 a.m. Wednesday, March 30, 2016, at Park Louisville in Louisville.
She was born on May 25, 1924, in Posey County, Indiana. After marrying Jimmy, they lived in Minnesota for a few years. Then they moved to Henderson where her parents and sister lived.
In the late 1940's until the mid 1960's, Jeanne was co-owner of Jimmy's Drive Ins. Beginning in 1966, they opened Colonel Jim's and Kentucky Foods, although she spent little time at any of these.
Jeanne liked gardening and was an excellent cook and baker. She enjoyed taking cooking classes, had over 1,000 cookbooks, and hosted a Christmas Eve party for 50 years.
Jeanne was an avid walker. Regardless of the weather, she could often be seen on Main and Elm Street walking from Sand Lane to the post office, hospital, and beyond.
Early on, Jeanne loved attending her grandchildren's sporting events. She liked taking bus tours and working on genealogy. She was a member of First United Methodist Church.
Despite what Alzheimer's took from her, Jeanne maintained a strong will and sarcastic sense of humor throughout. Loving caregivers from Colonial Assisted Living and Park Louisville can attest to that.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Mortensen, who died in 1986; and her parents, Stanley and Carlena Ramsey.
Survivors include her daughter, Jamia Taylor and her husband, Corky, of Goshen, Kentucky; one sister, Jane Farmer of Henderson; three grandchildren, Shane Taylor and his wife, Robyn, of Burbank, California, Kendi Atwater and her husband, Darryl, of Manhattan Beach, California, and Carson Taylor of Goshen, Kentucky; six great-grandchildren, Riley, Brooke, Langan, Lola, Liam, and Samantha; nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from noon to 3 p.m. Monday at Rudy-Rowland Funeral Home. Private family entombment will be in Fairmont Cemetery Mausoleum.
