James Harold Sheffer, 82, of Henderson, Kentucky, known to many as Gomer, passed away on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at his home.

He was born on November 16, 1943, to the late Theodore "Punch" Sheffer and Mary Lee Allen Sheffer.  He worked at GAMCO until he retired.  In his spare time, he enjoyed horse races at Ellis Park, lottery tickets, game shows, western television, and tending to his garden.  He enjoyed spending time with his grandsons and family and worked hard to provide for his family.  In his younger years, he worked at the local bowling alley, where he was a pin setter and met his wife, Joyce.

He reunites with his parents and siblings who have all passed on: brothers, J.R. Sheffer, Richard Sheffer, and Joseph "Joker" Sheffer; and sisters, Martha Jean Oglesby and Mary Frances Wolfe.

He leaves behind his wife of 54 years, Joyce Sheffer; his daughter, Jennifer Barnett; three grandsons, James Chambers, John Chambers, and Josh Opperman; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at Rudy-Rowland Funeral Home.  Brother Dwight Cox will officiate.  Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.

Contributions may be made to St. Anthony's Hospice or Faithway Baptist Church.

Pallbearers will be David Buchanan, Ray Brown, Scott Wolfe, Jarred Hailman, Cole Tarr, and Tyler Nichols.
