James R. "Jim" Myers, 81, of Henderson, Kentucky, went to be with the lord at 12:57 a.m. Tuesday, May 23, 2017, at Methodist Hospital.

He was born on May 30, 1935, in Burlington, Iowa, where he met the love of his life, his teacher and future wife, at the Arthur Murray Dance Studio.  They moved to Henderson, Kentucky, in 1964 where they took up square dancing.  He retired from Hydro Conduit as a purchasing agent after 35 years.

He was an active member of First Christian Church where he was Deacon Emeritus, a member of the handbell choir, and a dedicated choir member for more than 50 years.  His love for music is remembered by family members who would listen to him sing and play guitar on the front porch.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William David and Ruth Alma Carter Myers; one brother, Paul Thomas Myers; one daughter-in-law, Alice J. Myers; and one great-great-grandson, Bentley Woods.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, R. Joan Myers; four children, James W. Myers, Gale Myers and his wife, Gail, Teri L. Cobb and her husband, Terry, and Elliot Myers and his wife, Terrie, all of Henderson, Kentucky; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at First Christian Church.  Dr. Chuck Summers and the Reverend Amy Cates will officiate.  Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Rudy-Rowland Funeral Home and from 9 a.m. until service time Friday at the church.
