Gary Louis Higdon, age 73, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, March 2, 2023, at Redbanks Nursing Home.

Gary was born in Owensboro, Kentucky, on June 7, 1949, to the late John William Higdon and Georgia Mae (Augenstein) Higdon.  He graduated from Owensboro High School in 1967.  Gary then served in the Army during the Vietnam War.  He met his wife, Judy, with whom he recently celebrated their 48 ^th wedding anniversary.  Gary was soft-spoken, caring, and kind.  He had the ability to strike up a conversation with anyone.  His greatest joy came from spending time with family and friends and creating delicious dishes for the occasion.

Gary enjoyed birdwatching, growing peppers for his favorite jalapeño jelly recipe, and vacations at the beach.  He loved a good laugh, warm sunshine, and just taking it easy!  He was a loving husband, awesome Dad, and proud Grampy.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, John and Georgia Higdon.

Gary is survived by his wife, Judy Higdon; his son, Adam Higdon (Nicole); his stepdaughter, Leanne Bell; his stepson, Rob Boullie; two brothers, John Higdon (Nickie) and Jeff Higdon (Nancy); his grandchildren, Thursday, Amelia, Ella, Owen, Danielle, and Toneisha; and his great-grandchildren, Crishawn, Quincy, and Honor; many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Gary was loved dearly and will be missed greatly.

There will be a private memorial service for family and friends.

The family wishes to thank Redbanks Nursing Home and St. Anthony's Hospice for the care and love Gary received while there.
