Obituary

Elizabeth (Betty) Massey Snyder, age 89, of Henderson, KY, passed away on Monday, July 18, 2016, at her home.

She was a member of The Presbyterian Church of Henderson where she served as an Elder, Trustee, and Moderator of the Presbyterian Women's Organization.

She was born in Beaver Falls, PA, December 4, 1926, the daughter of Anton J. and Katherine Grossman Massey, both deceased. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert A. Snyder (1987) and her son, Randolph A. Snyder (2005).

Betty was co-valedictorian of South High School in Cleveland, Ohio, and attended the University of Wisconsin in Madison for two years with plans to major in broadcast journalism. Unfortunately, she faced financial difficulties in securing enough funds for her junior year and was compelled to delay her education. Several years later, after marriage and family, she resumed her education at the Evening School of Fenn College (now Cleveland State University) in Cleveland. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Education and taught in the Euclid Public School System in Euclid, Ohio.

She moved to Henderson with her husband in 1972 when he was transferred to the newly built Eaton Axle Plant (now Dana Corp.) as Plant Manager. She was so warmly welcomed by Robards and Henderson residents that she was happy to call the Henderson area her home.

She was a former member of the Henderson Garden Club, served on the Henderson County Library Board and Foundation, served as President of the Henderson Fine Arts Center Guild early in its formation, was a member of the Outlook Book Club, the Friends of Audubon, the Second Friday Dinner Club, and the Henderson Country Club.

The family wishes to thank all her life-long friends for caring for her and making her life purposeful and so fulfilling. She found enjoyment in volunteering and being a help to her friends. She also missed very much her husband, Bob, whom we all felt was "irreplaceable". We find solace that they are now re-united.

Survivors include her children, Eric Snyder (wife Antonia) of Hudson, Ohio, Laurel Snyder of Naperville, Illinois, and Murray Snyder of Henderson; two grandsons, Robert and Carl Snyder of Hudson, Ohio; one sister Lillian E. Stevens of Newton Upper Falls, MA; one brother, Robert A. Massey (wife Pauline) of New Market, Maryland; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 21, 2016, at The Presbyterian Church of Henderson, 100 South Main Street, Henderson, KY 42420. Dr. Rich Cooper will officiate. Burial will be in Knollwood Cemetery in Mayfield Heights, Ohio.

Visitation will be 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 20, 2016, at Rudy-Rowland Funeral Home, 604 Center Street, Henderson, KY 42420.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to The Presbyterian Church of Henderson, Henderson County Public Library, Friends of Audubon at Audubon State Park, or St. Anthony Hospice.
