Elizabeth "Jane" Edwards, 94, of Henderson, formerly of Auburn, KY, died Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at home under the care of St. Anthony's Hospice.

Jane was born in Brownsville, KY, daughter of George and Bettie Jenkins Strickler.  She grew up and worked on the family farm located on land originally part of the Shaker settlement outside Auburn.  She attended Christian College in Columbia, MO, and then graduated from the University of Kentucky with a major in Bacteriology.  While at UK, Jane met Bill Edwards and they were married in 1953.

Mrs. Edwards was proceeded in death by her husband of 57 years, William Edwards, and a son, Billy Edwards.

She is survived by her daughters, Brucie Farris (Lance), of Henderson, Jan Marshburn and husband, Jody, of Tampa, Fla., and Becky Teague and husband, Dee, of Madisonville; her sons, John D. Edwards and wife, Christi, of Henderson; 11 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Jane was a wonderful mother – strict but always fair.  Raising 5 kids is never easy, but she did it while being "the great woman behind a great man."  She was an avid golfer and loved knitting and crocheting, making over 200 prayer shawls for St. Anthony's Hospice.  Her greatest achievement was raising her large family.  Jane also started the lab training program at Methodist Hospital which later became the Medical Laboratory Technician program at Henderson Community College, where she was an associate professor.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, August 3, 2024, at Maple Grove Cemetery, Russellville, KY, at 11:00 am.
