Dr. John A. Logan III went to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 25, 2026.
John and his beloved wife, Jackie, celebrated 67 years of marriage in August. Together, they have four children: Kim, Sarah Williams (John), Debbie, and John A. Logan IV (Marsha); seven precious grandchildren: Addison Williams McKinney (Jacob), John Logan Williams, Caroline Fielding Williams, Ashton Brooks Logan, John A. Logan V, Ann Marshal Logan, and Jack Phinn Logan; and one great-grandson, Asher Williams McKinney. Their family also includes numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
John was born on December 16, 1937, in Bowling Green, Kentucky, to Victor Roberts Logan and Ruth Brooks Logan. His siblings include the late Emma Elizabeth Logan Lowery (John), the late William A. “Bill” Logan (Joyce), and Thomas B. Logan (Jo).
He graduated from Western Kentucky University in just two years and received his M.D. from Vanderbilt Medical School at the age of 23. John and Jackie then moved to Toledo, Ohio, where John completed his internship at Toledo Hospital. Afterward, John launched his career as a family physician in Sebree, Kentucky, where he lived and practiced for five years.
John and Jackie went on to put down permanent roots in Henderson, Kentucky, where John practiced family medicine for 25 years. He served as the Chief of Staff at Community Methodist Hospital, contributing to its growth and advancement. In addition to touching the lives of countless patients, John played a crucial role in the expansion of Community Methodist Hospital. After retiring from patient care, he became Medical Director, overseeing hospital growth, recruiting numerous physicians, and establishing a residency program to train future family physicians.
A pillar of the Henderson community, John lived a life dedicated to serving others. His love for his community was evident through his many charitable endeavors. He played an important role in building a new YMCA and establishing the Preston Fine Arts Center. He led fundraising efforts for St. Anthony’s Hospice, contributed to the Colonels to College program, and supported the Henderson County School District’s Foundation for Excellence, which helped place the first computers in the school system. These are just a few of the many ways John gave back to the community he loved.
Dr. Logan belonged to the American Medical Association, the Kentucky Medical Association, and the Kentucky Academy of Family Practice. He was an active member of the Henderson Rotary Club, where he was a Paul Harris Fellow and served as president. John was also a member of the Henderson Chamber of Commerce and Henderson First United Methodist Church.
John was a humble man of few words. Rather than seeking the spotlight for his many accomplishments, he treasured the time he spent outdoors, whether in solitude or with those he loved most. John enjoyed hunting, baseball, gardening, and, most of all, fishing. Perhaps his greatest love, however, was his family. He made certain to instill the values of education, charity, and hard work in each of his children and grandchildren.
John leaves behind a legacy defined by quiet humility, a commitment to service, a deep dedication to others, and an enduring love for his family and friends.
