Dorothy Louise Mathias, 91, of Henderson, Kentucky, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 24, 2018.

She had been an active member of the former Immanuel Baptist Temple, where she taught Sunday school, Mission Friends, and Training Union for 26 years and worked as a custodian for 18 years.  Dorothy also worked at Bear Brand Hosiery for 24 years.  She was a Kentucky Colonel and belonged to the Hospital Auxiliary.  Dorothy was an avid UK and St. Louis Cardinals fan.  After retirement, she spent time babysitting the children of her church family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James "J.W." Mathias, who died January 10, 1992; her mother, Gertie Holmes; one son, Johnnie Mathias, who died April 10, 2005; one daughter, Janice Mathias, who died in 1954; and one brother, Roy Hinton, who died March 10, 2005.

Survivors include four children, Joretta Peckenpaugh of Florida, Jimmy Mathias and his wife, Cheryl, of Henderson, Kentucky, Janelda McGill and her husband, Jimmy, of Corydon, Kentucky, and the Reverend Gene Mathias and his wife, Barbara, of Auburn, Kentucky; one daughter-in-law, Margaret Mathias of Henderson, Kentucky; nine grandchildren, Matt Mathias, John Mathias, David Earl Peckenpaugh, Brian Smith, Paul Smith, Eric McGill, Jayla Gish, Billy Mathias, and Casey Mathias; and twelve great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Rudy-Rowland Funeral Home.  The Reverend Rick O'Daniel will officiate.  Burial will be in Fernwood Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday and until service time Friday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.
