Obituary

Dave Rupsch, 73, of Henderson, Kentucky, died Sunday, July 2, 2023, at UofL Health – Jewish Hospital, after an extended illness.

He was born to the late Robert Joseph and Evelyn Ann (Latal) Rupsch on August 19, 1949, in Chicago.

Growing up on Chicago's southside, he was a lifelong Chicago White Sox fan.  After the White Sox won the World Series in 2005, he commented that he could die peacefully, knowing they had finally won during his lifetime.  Beyond the Sox, Dave was a fan of the Chicago Bears and Chicago Blackhawks.  He also enjoyed rooting for the Southern Illinois University Salukis, having graduated from SIU in 1972.

An educator, Dave worked for many years of his career at Earle C. Clements Job Corps Center in Morganfield.  Dave also served as principal at the former Barrett Intervention Learning Center in Henderson.  He retired from Webster County Schools after having served as part of the central office staff and as a principal. After retirement, he worked as a contractor for the Kentucky Center for School Safety.

Dave was an avid fisherman, having started fishing at an early age with his father and uncles in Chicago and the northwoods of Wisconsin.  He looked forward to his fishing vacations each year while working, and he enjoyed extended fishing trips – including ice fishing in North Dakota – during retirement. When not fishing, Dave enjoyed gardening.

Dave is survived by his wife of 42 years, Bonnie Couch Rupsch, of Henderson, Kentucky; two sons, David Robert "Davy" Rupsch, II, and his wife, Amanda, of Alvaton, Kentucky, and Joseph Robert "Joey" Rupsch of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; one grandson, Donovan Rupsch; cousins, including Jeanne Sherlag and Sue Sherlag; his brother-in-law, Greg Lowe; his niece, Bethany McGuffin; his nephew, Stephen Lowe; and other friends and family. Dave held a special place in his heart for dogs, loving his dog, Sox, and his granddogs, Cooper and Barkley.
