Darrel E. Hout, 92, of Henderson, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, July 31, 2018, at St. Anthony's Hospice Lucy Smith King Care Center.

He was the owner and operator of Western States Oil Company in Henderson, Kentucky.  After spending 68 years in the oil industry, he retired last year.  At the age of 17, Darrel joined the U.S. Navy and was on Omaha Beach during the D-Day invasion.  He was also an avid horseman and loved riding his horse G.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George Otis and Maude Marian Craig Hout; and two sisters, Jeannine and Ernestine.

Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Lillian Faye Hout; two daughters, Jo Laine Shelton and her husband, Bill, of Henderson, Kentucky, and Gena Ann Hout of Carmel, Indiana; one sister, Peggy Kuder and her husband, Charles, of Henderson, Kentucky; three grandchildren, Derek Shelton and his wife, Sara, of Henderson, Kentucky, Jordan Howard and his wife, Amanda, of Fishers, Indiana, and Brett Howard and his wife, Brittney, of San Francisco, California; five great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be at noon Saturday at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church.  The Reverend Mike Snyder will officiate.  Full military rites will be performed by American Legion Worsham Post No. 40.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.
