Charles Terry
“Dutch” Herzog
Apr 8, 1947 — Dec 15, 2022
Henderson
Charles Terry "Dutch" Herzog, 75, of Henderson, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, December 15, 2022, at Western Kentucky Veterans Center in Hanson, Kentucky, after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease.
He was a graduate of Henderson City High School and Henderson Community College. In 1968, Terry went to Vietnam as a member of the elite Special Forces group, the storied Green Berets. While in Vietnam, he worked as an intelligence analyst and earned several medals for valor, including three Bronze Stars. During battle, he received shrapnel wounds and was exposed to the toxic Agent Orange, which eventually resulted in Parkinson's Disease.
During the mid 1980's, Terry was the original founder/manager of Algonquin's I, a popular Henderson gathering spot. He left to become a regional salesperson for Farm Boy Food Service. After retiring from there, he worked for five years with the Community Service Program of the Henderson County Detention Center. Terry never met a stranger, and he never met a corny joke he wouldn't tell. He loved his family, his friends, good food, good stories, laughter, life, and the horses.
Terry was the son of the late Doris Mae and Charles "Dutch" Herzog of Henderson.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Karen Jung; his brother, Kenneth "Dutch" Herzog; and his niece, Karen Jung Kemp.
Terry is survived by his wife of 50 years, Lana Brackett Herzog; two sons, Chris Herzog and his wife, Lisa, of Evansville, Indiana, and Adam Herzog of Henderson, Kentucky; and a large, loving extended family of cousins, nieces and nephews.
At 10 a.m. on Tuesday, December 20, 2022, at Rudy-Rowland Funeral Home, Terry's memorial service will be as he would want it to be: a time of stories and laughter by family and good friends. Full military rites will be performed by American Legion Worsham Post No. 40.
In lieu of flowers, his family asks that you raise a glass to a life well-lived, tell some great stories, and love your life as much as he loved his.
